Tempo Dance Company opened in November 2025, with classes beginning in January 2026.
Founded by Sharon Kawonga, the company grew from a desire to keep sharing her years of teaching experience after moving to the south. Sharon wanted to create a dance company of her own, one where people could enjoy moving, build confidence and discover what they’re capable of.
We currently offer dance classes for adults, with plans to expand to teenagers and younger dancers in the future. Whether you’re new to dance or returning to it, we want you to feel welcome, supported and free to move at your own pace.

At Tempo, dance is about more than getting every step right, it’s about enjoying yourself, trying something new and leaving class feeling good. We aim to create a positive, encouraging space where everyone can learn, grow and express themselves.

Sharon’s love of dance began in secondary school and has been part of her life ever since. She spent many years training and teaching at a dance school in the East Midlands, sharing styles including commercial, street and contemporary. Today, she especially enjoys teaching commercial and heels.
Throughout her dance journey, Sharon has performed at venues including Wembley Stadium and the Royal Albert Hall, as well as at Disney. She has also appeared in production shows and musicals, and choreographed and directed her own shows. These experiences have shaped her creativity, confidence and approach to teaching.
After moving to the south in 2020, Sharon wanted to continue doing what she loves: teaching dance and helping others discover their own passion for it. That inspiration led her to create Tempo Dance Company, a welcoming place where adults can learn, enjoy moving and grow in confidence.
Alongside dance, Sharon runs TEMPO Digital, her own Social Media and Digital Marketing company. She supports businesses with social media management, content planning and creation, email marketing, and CMS work - bringing her creativity and digital expertise to both TEMPO Digital and TEMPO Dance Company.
